Le Bonheur (1965). Digital Presentation, 80 min. French with English subtitles. We salute pioneering filmmaker Agnès Varda as we celebrate Elles: Women Artists from the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Born in 1928, Varda, a philosophy student and gifted still photographer, became the first Frenchwoman to make a feature motion picture. Fascinated by people’s inner lives, and the natural landscapes and cities they inhabit, Varda crafted visually stunning, intimate portraits imbued with the French New Wave spirit of spontaneous creativity. The idyllic Le Bonheur (Happiness) wonders if a blissfully married woman can accept a third person in her nest of love.
