This year's Members Art History Lecture series covers a rich spectrum of engaging topics. Join us as SAM’s outstanding curators explore thought-provoking topics within their areas of SAM’s permanent collection.

One of SAM’s most venerable works of Northwest Coast art, a Nuxalk sun mask, will be the subject of Curator of Native American Art Barbara Brotherton's conversation with Jennifer Kramer, Curator of Pacific Northwest Art, Museum of Anthropology, University of British Columbia. Created around 1880, this monumental piece is made up of a circular corona and an inset mask. Joint research by curators at SAM and Vancouver's Museum of Anthropology, in consultation with Nuxalk community members, has revealed a startling secret. Both pieces and other Nuxalk masks are currently on view.
