Members Art History Lecture Series: Curator's Choice with Xiaojin Wu
New Visions, Old Stories: Reinstalling the Japanese Art Galleries
February 20, 2013
7–8:30 pm
Plestcheeff Auditorium

This year's Members Art History Lecture series covers a rich spectrum of engaging topics. Join us as SAM’s outstanding curators explore thought-provoking topics within their areas of SAM’s permanent collection.

SAM’s renowned Japanese art collection visually depicts stories told and retold over thousands of years. In this lecture, SAM’s new Associate Curator for Japanese & Korean Art, Xiaojin Wu, discusses her reinstallation of the Japanese art galleries. The works selected for the reinstallation—scrolls, screens, lacquerware, ceramics, and textiles—showcase how tales, legends, poetry, and theater have been essential resources for Japanese artists’ visual narratives.

Other lectures in this series include:

November 14, 2012: My Friend, Georgia O’Keeffe: Barney Ebsworth Reminisces
December 12: Victoria Haven: Portable Monuments
January 16, 2013: Together Again: Nuxalk Faces of the Sky
