Ptah is one of the oldest gods of all. His center of worship was Memphis. He was considered by his followers to be the primary god and the creator of all the other gods. Therefore he is known as a creation deity. There are two aspects to creation in ancient Egypt, the first being conception and the second being annunciation.

Ptah is depicted as a man wearing a skullcap and wrapped in mummy wrappings, holding a Djed pillar. The Djed is the symbol for stability. He is the husband of Sekhmet, one of the oldest mother goddesses. Ptah is the source of all ethical and moral orders in the world, and is called "Lord of Truth." He is able to bring forth life with his will and by the spoken word, his tongue announcing what his heart desires. Figurine of Path, at right.
