A selection of nineteenth-century American landscape views, both paintings and photography, are now on view. These artworks are among the highlights of the museum’s collection of American art. The artists represented include the most important figures who were working in nineteenth-century America: Frederic Edwin Church, Albert Bierstadt, Sanford Gifford and John Frederick Kensett. Among the photographers included are Carleton Watkins, Eadweard Muybridge, and a selection of works by a little known master of the medium, John. S. Johnston.
