Internships support SAM's commitment to encouraging emerging professionals in the museum field by providing professional growth and development opportunities.

Program Description

The SAM internship program offers part-time, unpaid internships for one or more academic quarters each year. Students may be eligible to earn academic credit, however credit programs are managed through individual academic institutions.

A wide range of opportunities and experiences are provided through the SAM internship program. Internship experiences may include researching artists, exhibitions, and programs; conducting market research or writing press releases; developing workshops, tours, lectures, dialogues, symposia, curricula, performances and other interpretive public programs that cater to a variety of audiences. Read what past interns have had to say about their experiences at SAM.

Many Seattle Art Museum departments have offered internship positions in the past. Please see a list of these intern positions for more details. Available opportunities vary from quarter to quarter.

Please Note

  • Internships are very competitive. SAM offers limited numbers of internships each quarter and is unable to place all applicants.
  • SAM does not provide travel, relocation or housing assistance for interns.
  • Internship time commitments vary between a minimum of 8 hours per week to a maximum of 35 hours per week.
