Teachers, now that you have viewed the children’s segment on How Does Art Tell Stories?, you can use this section as a guide for discussing the sculpture and for leading related activities. The unit theme How Does Art Tell Stories? links visual art with language arts, and in some activities with performing arts.
We recommend printing out the sections of this unit you would like to use and referring to them to guide discussion while you look at the children’s section with your students. No Internet access in your classroom? Don’t worry, you can also print the images of the sculpture onto overhead transparencies and discuss them with your students in that format instead. The detailed drawings will print out with the text.
This unit was developed with artists and third- and sixth-grade teachers as part of Growing Up with Art, SAM’s school partnership project.
