These two paintings are important because the both record events, one historical and one religious. The painting on the left (the historical painting) was most likely an important scholar that they were trying to record. The religious painting to the right is probably St. Jerome praying and having a premonition of Jesus being crucified. These paintings are very similar in that their colors are the same (earth colors), there is only one figure in each, they both portray a man, both figures look like they have social importance, and they are both stylized. This makes them ideal paintings to compare.
