SEATTLE, May 4, 2010 – Get Out! and play, shop, party and create this summer at the Olympic Sculpture Park (OSP). The Seattle Art Museum has scheduled an entire summer season packed full of activities that combine visual art, green living and community.

The OSP summer season will be alive with events and programs beginning with the June 12 kick-off during the Celebrate Wildflowers festival. The season will be punctuated by a weekly Farmers Market, music and art-filled Thursday evenings beginning in July, a rocking SAM Remix at OSP in August, and the season-closing Salmon Return festival in September. Throughout the season, Get Out! will aim to be socially responsible and environmentally friendly.

The Thursday Olympic Sculpture Park Farmers Market along the park’s z-path will feature more than 30 local farmers and vendors. It will also showcase chef demonstrations by talent from throughout the region and and wine tastings by TASTE Restaurant. The farmers market is presented in partnership with TASTE Restaurant and the Seattle Farmers Market Association (SFMA), who is proud to partner with SAM in the production of its summer series. SFMA is the organizer of the Ballard Farmers Market and five other neighborhood markets. This year it celebrates its 20th anniversary as founder of the neighborhood market movement in the Seattle area. The Olympic Sculpture Park Farmers Market takes place on Thursdays, 3:30-7:30 p.m., July 15th-September 9th

Seattle residents and visitors alike can also count on a range of weekly events, from jazz and rock performances and outdoor social dancing on Thursday evenings, to outdoor yoga and drawing in the park on Saturdays.

This summer, the museum is also thrilled to announce the installation of five ephemeral works of art at OSP. West Coast artists Jenny Heishman, Andrew Dadson, Mungo Thomson, Jessica Jackson Hutchins and Whiting Tennis are working on site-specific pieces that will be on view in various areas of the park beginning June 12.

In addition, on August 18 a new installation in the PACCAR Pavilion will open to the public. Trenton Doyle Hancock’s A Better Promise (2010), is an ambitious, site-specific installation that continues an imaginative and colorful epic saga that the artist has created and follows through his multi-media art works. The installation at OSP will include large-scale sculpture, wall drawings, and an interactive component encouraging viewers to bring their own “mounds of color” in the form of plastic bottle caps to the park and feed them to the work of art, thereby infusing color into OSP’s PACCAR Pavilion.
