Viva Italia! Italian Film Series: Padre Padrone

Thu Mar 2 2017

Seattle Art Museum

Plestcheeff Auditorium

7:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Take a winter vacation with directors Bertolucci, Rossellini, Monicelli and the Tavianni Brothers, and actors Anna Magnani, Giulietta Masina and Dominique Sanda. On a night when wishes come true, a Tuscan village resists the Nazis; a woman (Ingrid Bergman) embraces the life force of Italy; a country girl (Stefania Sandrelli) yearns to be a star in Rome; a man (Marcello Mastroianni) enters a world dominated by women. Films in Italian with English subtitles. Once again, we team with Festa Italiana to celebrate classic Italian cinema.

This moving autobiographical story of author Gavino Ledda’s life begins in rural Sardinia, where the boy’s father (padre) is also his boss (padrone). Can a traditionalist patriarch and a creative and ambitious son learn to accommodate each other? Winner of the Grand Prix and International Critics’ Prize, Cannes Film festival. Digital restoration, 113 min.
