Front Row Center: Taking Tea

Feb 7 2019

Seattle Art Museum

Nordstrom Lecture Hall

7 PM – 8 PM

Sold Out

Join KUOW's Marcie Sillman in conversation with independent curator Erika Dalya Massaquoi about the recently debuted installation in the museum’s beloved Porcelain Room, Taking Tea.

Massaquoi tapped British ceramic artist Claire Partington to create an installation for the space, the first one staged in the Porcelain Room since its debut in 2009. Partington’s signature figurative sculptures bring out the untold human stories of the 1,000 European and Asian porcelain pieces in the museum’s collection. Referencing Baroque painting, European porcelain factories, and 17th- and 18th-century shipwrecks, Taking Tea reminds viewers of the reality of precarious ocean voyages and human exploitation.

Please arrive at least one hour before the start of the talk so you have time to explore Taking Tea on the museum’s fourth floor.
