On Mount Rainier, and Beyond: Imogen Cunningham in the Northwest

Photographer Imogen Cunningham lived most of her life in the Bay Area, but her formative years were spent in the Pacific Northwest where she was born in 1883. Using archival research undertaken in preparation for SAM’s upcoming exhibition Imogen Cunningham: A Retrospective, this talk will present a deep dive into this pioneering artist’s early years in Seattle and its environs, and explore how her experiences in the Northwest impacted her work and career.
