The following volunteer positions may be available:

Family Art Activities
Help engage families in hands-on art activities and family-oriented programming at First Free Saturdays, Family Affair, and Family Fun. Assist education staff with set-up, greeting, clean-up, demonstration and use of materials.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Interest or knowledge of art education
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all ages
Monthly shifts:
Saturday
9:30 am–12:30 pm
At SAM (2nd Sat), SAAM (1st Sat), or OSP (3rd Sat)


Greeters
Greet and welcome museum visitors at one of our entrance doors, answer general questions and direct visitors to ticketing, coat check, galleries, SAM SHOP and SAM TASTE.
Requirements:
- Ability to stand comfortably for 4 hours
- Enjoy interacting with the public in a positive, professional manner
- Attend required training sessions (provided by museum)
Minimum Commitment:
Two shifts per month for six months. Available shifts: Sat. or Sun. 11 am–3 pm


Olympic Sculpture Park Ambassadors
Greet and welcome Olympic Sculpture Park visitors, answer questions and provide information about park programs and attractions.
Requirements:
- Ability to move over varied outdoor terrain for 2–3 hours
- Enjoy interacting with the public in a positive, professional manner
- Attend required training sessions (provided by museum)
Minimum Commitment
Two shifts per month for six months; weekly shifts preferred


Park Stewards
Work with Olympic Sculpture Park Gardener to support and maintain precinct plantings, assist with beach clean-up, and encourage positive visitor interaction in a park environment.
Requirements:
- Ability to move over varied outdoor terrain for 2–3 hours
- Enjoy interacting with the public, staff and volunteers in a positive, professional manner
- Interest in gardening, ecology and natural environment desired
Minimum Commitment
Two shifts per month for six months


SAMbassadors
Greet and welcome museum visitors, answer questions and provide information about the new museum building, programs and activities.
Requirements:
- Ability to stand and/or walk comfortably for 2–3 hours
- Enjoy interacting with the public in a positive, professional manner
- Attend required training sessions (provided by museum)
Minimum Commitment
Two shifts per month for six months; weekly shifts preferred


Tea Ceremony Volunteers
Assist SAM's Adult Public Programs Department in hosting tea ceremonies at the Japanese Teahouse on the Third Floor at SAM Downtown.
Volunteer shifts available
Second Tuesday of each month, 10 am–12:30 pm or Third Sunday of each month, 1:30 pm–4 pm
Tasks include
- Finding and moving chairs from SAM's Third Floor Galleries to the Tea Ceremony Gallery
- Checking audience names off a will-call list
- Inviting gallery visitors to attend the ceremony when seats are available
- Staying for the duration of the ceremony to ensure that the program runs smoothly
- Returning chairs to their places in the Third Floor Galleries
Requirements
- Enjoy interacting with the public, staff and visitors in a positive, professional manner
- Ability to move chairs and stand comfortably during shift
Minimum commitment
One shift per month for six months


Visitor Services
Ensure that all visitors have a positive and enjoyable experience. Greet and interact with guests, check coats and belongings and assist museum visitors.
Requirements:
- Warm, professional public presence and customer service orientation
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, volunteers and visitors
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to ten pounds.
Training provided.
Minimum Commitment
Two shifts per month: 10:00 am–1:30 pm or 1:30–5:00 pm Tuesday–Sunday; 5:30–9:00 pm Thursday–Friday, at SAM
