Kick off a new season of SAM Body + Mind with an evening of spoken word from local and internationally renowned poets.

Immerse yourself in the transformative power of poetry with a selection of readings curated by Inside, a sanctuary for self-discovery and healing. Each of the featured poems will illuminate the therapeutic power of self-expression and celebrate the strength found in vulnerability.

Rudy Francisco is one of the most recognizable names in spoken word. He headlines this incredible evening of poetry, sharing work that combines social critique, introspection, and humor with honest personal narratives to comment on the politics of race, class, gender, nature, and religion. He travels the world introducing new audiences to his practice while promoting healthy dialogues, discourses, and social change.

Elliott Bay Book Company will have Rudy Francisco’s poetry books for sale at this event.

9–10 am: Yoga
Participate in a 60-minute Vinyasa flow led by Take Care Yoga that focuses on building strength, balance, flexibility, and heart.

Early arrival is encouraged to secure your space. Exercise materials will not be provided. Please bring a water bottle, yoga mat, and any other items necessary for your practice. All levels are welcome.

10:30 am–12:30 pm: Art Therapy, Reading, and Live Music
Get your creative juices flowing with a guided art activity led by educators from Seattle-based non-profit organization Northwest Creative & Expressive Arts Institute. You’ll leave this kinetic experience with a rejuvenated mind and artistic masterpiece to take home.

Find solace in the music of songwriter and music producer Shelby Natasha. Influenced by her upbringing split between China and the Pacific Northwest, her music layers a live Guzheng performance atop lofi R&B beats and Chinese folk songs.

Calling all book lovers! The bookworms of Silent Book Club West Seattle are taking over the sculpture park’s PACCAR Pavilion to provide a quiet space for sustained reading and connection. Don’t have a book? No problem! All participants are welcome to borrow reading materials from our onsite SAM Library pop-up.

1–2 pm: Sound Bowls
Recharge for the week ahead with a sound bowl performance by Biom. Utilizing the resonance of crystal bowls and metal gongs, this hourlong experience incorporates sound, plants, and light therapy to help clear the mind, loosen stagnant energy, relieve tension, and reach a deep meditative state.

9 am–2 pm: Snack Break
MARKET in the Park offers coffee and bites for purchase.

Cure your winter blues with an evening of live jazz performances under the stars.

Noel Brass Jr. is a composer, keyboardist, educator working in Seattle's thriving musical landscape. Influenced by early sci-fi soundtracks, film noir, improvisation, his synth-lush explorations are dystopian yet hopeful.

Brooklyn-based trombonist Kalia Vandever is known for her sonorous tone and lyrical improvisational voice. She approaches her instrument distinctively, allowing patience and melody to guide her process.

Lose yourself in the meditative melodies of sound bowls as we close out this season’s evening programming. Bring your own yoga mat or blanket as this performance is meant to be experienced laying down. Yoga mats will not be provided.

Space to lay down is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once ground space is full, general overflow seating will become available.

Early arrival is strongly recommended in order to reserve your preferred seating. Doors open at 5 pm and the program will begin at 6:30 pm.

UMI has been pioneering a new sound rooted in R&B and neo soul since 2017. Her honest lyrics and healing sonics reflect her unique and nostalgic personality and invite listeners to reflect and embrace their emotions.
