Full body portrait of Monet holding a walking stick and wearing a hat sketched in charcoal

Claude Monet, 1890, Theodore Robinson

I reviewed my work of these past days and it seems to me that it’s all bad.

Fishing Boats at Étretat, 1885, Claude Monet

Painterly picture of cliffs and coast land formations running off into the ocean, mostly in blue and green colors

Manne-Porte, Étretat, 1885, Claude Monet

Painterly image of seastacks rising out of the sea, with a cliff and beach to the right

The Cliffs at Étretat, 1885, Claude Monet

As for the cliffs, here they are as nowhere else. I went down today to a spot where I had never dared explore before and there I saw admirable things, so I hurried back to get my canvases; in sum I am very happy.
