For 50 years, Tankokai Seattle has promoted an appreciation of the arts and culture of Japan through Chado, the way of tea. Celebrate this legacy and learn about Chado with a special tea demonstration, panel discussion, and tea service—including matcha and a sweet.
Panelists include Robert Hori (Gardens Cultural Curator & Programs Director, The Huntington), Sadafumi Uchiyama (Chief Curator & Director of Japanese Garden Training Center, Portland Japanese Garden), Rev. Daiko Matsuyama (Deputy Head Priest, Taizo-in Zen Buddhist Temple, Kyoto), and Dr. Morgan Pitelka (Professor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill).
This event is free with museum admission but attendees must reserve a spot in advance. There are a limited number of tickets available. Museum admission is NOT included and must be purchased separately. Each event registration includes tea service for one person. Tea service will be offered from 12-12:30 pm, followed by the panel discussion and tea ceremony demonstration from 1-3:30 pm.
