SUMMARY:Marks With Feeling
DESCRIPTION:Come see the artistic result of partnership between the Refugee Women's All
iance (ReWA) and the Seattle Art Museum. Over the course of the 2025-2026 s
chool year\, ReWA students explored a work of art in SAM’s Lang Collection
and created artistic responses during SAM's Art Adventures classroom visits
 .\nDrawing inspiration from Joan Mitchell's painting\, The Sink\, students
explored a variety of art techniques to create the mixed media pieces you'l
l see in the community gallery. Just as Mitchell utilized color\, line\, an
d texture to create bold abstract art steeped in emotion and memory\, these
young artists layered prints\, rubbings\, and drawings to create art packe
 d with joy\, personality\, and energy.\nCan you find marks\, lines\, and co
lors that jump out to you? How do they make you feel?\nRachel Kotkin\, SAM
Teaching Artist\nThe artworks displayed in this gallery were made by studen
ts ages 3 to 5\, from the Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) Early Learning Ce
nters in Beacon Hill\, Martin Luther King Way\, and Lake City. This exhibit
ion is made possible through SAM and ReWA’s Art Adventures Partnership.
