DESCRIPTION:On SAM Body + Mind Saturday evenings\, enjoy performances featuring local a
 nd visiting storytellers\, poets\, and creative organizations.\nInside prou
 dly presents a curated poetry show\, an evening where words create a sanctu
 ary for the soul. Rooted in their steadfast belief in the power of self-exp
 ression\, Inside invites you to partake in an event that mirrors their miss
 ion of fostering self-discovery and healing.\nThe headlining poet of the ev
 ening is Bay Davis\, a South Central native rooted in her colorful upbringi
 ng\, is undeniably called to liberation\, abolition\, and love. She draws f
 rom her experience as an Afro-Indigenous black trans woman navigating commu
 nities saturated in gang culture\, police violence\, transphobia\, and all 
 the “isms”. From organizing on street corners to classrooms and slam poetry
  stages\, Bay explores communal disparities\, structural racism\, grief\, g
 ender identity\, sexuality\, and our sometimes the interpersonal relationsh
 ip to them all through the lens of her own intimate survival and ancestrall
 y informed wordsmanship.\nShe is a 2017 National Poetry Slam finalist and i
 nternationally recognized trans advocate and organizer. Her work has been f
 eatured in the LA and NY Times\, Bese\, Netflix\, Mitu\, OUT Magazine\, and
  many other print and digital platforms. Bay utilizes her work to weave the
  tools of her own survival as offerings to challenge\, heal\, and question 
 the systems and climate we exist in today.\n5:30 pm - Doors open. Buy a dri
