DESCRIPTION:We're opening the museum doors for a free evening of fun and learning! Ever
 yone is invited to enjoy talks\, gallery tours\, performances\, relaxing mu
 sic\, delicious cocktails\, and snacks. This edition of SAM Open House cele
 brates the exhibition\, Joyce J. Scott: Walk a Mile in My Dreams at Seattle
  Art Museum. Tours\, demonstrations\, and art making throughout the evening
  are inspired by Scott’s boundary-breaking art practice incorporating glass
 \, sculpture\, beading\, and multi-media installation.\nBrotman Forum\n6–9 
 pm: Tabling by Coyote Central\nLearn more about Coyote Central's creative c
 lasses and public art opportunities for young people. Their mission is to s
 park creativity in young people\, putting tools in their hands to build ski
 lls and forge their futures.\n6–8:30 pm: Beadmaking workshop by Kulla Jatan
 i\nWhether you're a seasoned beadworker or just looking to get creative\, t
 his craft table offers engaging activities for all ages and skill levels. E
 xplore the vast array of beads to craft a unique piece of necklace or brace
 let that reflects your style. Additionally\, unleash your imagination with 
 the button crafting activity\, where you can transform ordinary buttons int
 o extraordinary works of art. Create abstract designs\, whimsical figures\,
  or even miniature landscapes&mdash\;endless possibilities! Let your creati
 vity flow\, and discover the joy of jewelry beading and button crafting.\n6
 :30–7 pm: Awodi Drumming\nTake part in an interactive performance and drum 
 along with Javoen Byrd. LANGSTON Seattle and The Hawk Foundation are proud 
 to present this brilliant instructor. Free West African Healing Drum classe
 s from Javoen are available on Mondays at Langston Hughes Performing Arts I
 nstitute. LANGSTON Seattle leads innovative programs and fosters community 
 partnerships that center Black art\, artists\, and audiences while honoring
  the enduring legacy of Seattle’s Black Central Area.\n7:30–9 pm: DJ Sureal
 \nTamao George Yasutake AKA DJ Sureal has been an area DJ\, beatmaker and H
 ip-Hop enthusiast in Seattle for over 20 years. Coming from a diversely tal
 ented family of musicians\, George decided to follow in his oldest brother’
 s footsteps (DJ Hardcut) and become a DJ.\nIn the galleries\n6–9 pm: Weavin
 g Space\nLearn to weave with an educator at the interactive weaving space t
 hat is part of the Joyce J. Scott exhibition.\n6:15 pm: Calder: In Motion w
 ith Jose Diaz\n6:30 pm &amp\; 7:45 pm: Joyce J. Scott: Walk a Mile in My Dr
 eams with Cynthia Masterson\nEnjoy this My Favorite Things Tour with Comanc
 he beadworker\, Cynthia Masterson. Observe and discuss a few of her favorit
 e pieces from Joyce J. Scott's exhibition. Cynthia will share beadweaving h
 istory\, materials\, and techniques from an Indigenous perspective. \n7:15 
 pm: Joyce J. Scott: Walk a Mile in My Dreams with Catharina Manchanda\n7:15
  pm: American Art: The Stories We Carry with David Turner\nThis SAM Open Ho
 use coincides with Refract\, a festival showcasing creative uses of glass i
 n the Pacific Northwest. Hosted by Chihuly Garden and Glass in partnership 
 with Visit Seattle\, this event brings together art organizations and artis
 ts to showcase what makes the region’s glass community so special. Refract 
 2024 takes place October 17–20.
