Join SAMâs 2024-25 Constance W. Rice Fellow, Carina A. del Rosario (she/her), in the studio to participate in a sewing circle as part of her Lay Your Burden Down art project. Participants will learn basic sewing and embroidery techniques that they'll use to embellish "burdens" that community members have written and shared ahead of time. Carina will use the embellished pieces to create a larger textile artwork that will be installed at Seattle Art Museum at a later time. No prior sewing experience is necessary. The Constance W. Rice Fellowship, inspired by SAMâs past Board of Trustees Chair, is an equity-driven program that provides space, time, and other resources to support a local BIPOC artist whose practice includes working with young people to create their art.
