Dive into Beyond Mysticism: The Modern Northwest, the Seattle Art Museumâs exploration of early-20th-century Pacific Northwest modernism. This exhibition reimagines the regionâs artistic legacyâexpanding beyond the iconic âMysticâ painters to highlight the broad range, complexity, and national significance of Northwest modern art. Featuring over 150 works by artists including Morris Graves, Mark Tobey, Georgia OâKeeffe, and Salvador DalĂ, the show reveals how local and transnational forces shaped a vibrant and distinctive artistic moment.
SAMâs Ann M. Barwick Curator of American Art, Theresa Papanikolas, will lead a dynamic discussion on the inspirations, research, and stories behind the exhibition. Hear how these artists engaged with the Pacific Northwestâs landscapes, cultures, and creative currentsâand discover new perspectives on how this region helped shape American modernism.
Be sure to join in on the next SAM Talks inspired by Beyond Mysticism: The Modern Northwest on April 9 and June 11.
