Niki Keenan

My paintings are derived from images of my backyard or nearby PNW forests and waterways made whimsical through the filter of my mind and memory. I'm constantly adding to the collection of personal sun-soaked moments that arrest me upon encounter and, as I tend to them in my studio, I aim to capture that pause and extend it. The more my landscapes look like a projection of a segment of a dream, the more a sense of time is infused in the canvas. I approach this with fantasy-based color combinations and specific mark-making. With blurred edges and suggestive forms, my pieces take on an abstracted quality that allows for time and gives space to dreams.
