Gardner Center

Though the Asian Art Museum is closed for renovation through early 2020, the Gardner Center for Asian Art and Ideas has been out and about hosting a dynamic array of public programs in Seattle and beyond. Until the museum’s reopening, Gardner Center events, including the popular Saturday University Series, will be held primarily at the Seattle Art Museum. We will continue to host our summer World Music Series in Volunteer Park.

Public programs offered by the Gardner Center aim to present a holistic view of Asia. Through a mix of dynamic talks and author events, we engage visitors through diverse perspectives on Asia’s many cultural traditions and contemporary issues. The Gardner Center also shares a range of artistic expression through performances, films, and events with visual artists. The popular Saturday University Lecture Series features outstanding international and local speakers who pursue varied forms of inquiry into Asia, past and present.

Asian Art Museum Libraries

The McCaw Foundation Library is closed for the duration of the Seattle Asian Art Museum renovation.

Librarian Yueh-Lin Chen is available at the Seattle Art Museum Bullitt Library to answer reference and research questions on Thursdays and Fridays. Continuing our relationship with The Gardner Center Saturday University Lecture Series, selected reading materials are available to series attendees at the Bullitt Library as well.
