Seattle Art Museum
1 PM – 2 PM
Join Step Afrika! as they perform creative excerpts of their work, The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence at the Seattle Art Museum to celebrate the legacy of Jacob Lawrence: The Migration Series. Step Afrika! founder Brian Williams will provide insight into the construction of this work, and the inspiration it draws from Lawrence and the Great Migration.
Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles historically practiced by African American fraternities and sororities, African traditional dance, and influences from a variety of other dance and art forms. Their newest work, The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence was co-commissioned by Meany Center for the Performing Arts and will be performed at Meany Hall February 16–18 at 8 pm.
