AN INSIDE-OUT STORY OF IN AND AROUND THE CAPITAL
/ Chief Conservator
Xiaojin Wu / Curator of Japanese and Korean Art
Among SAM's outstanding holding of Japanese art, the 17th-century In and Around the Capital screens stand out for their fascinating depictions of Kyoto, the capital and cultural center of Japan for much of premodern time. Thanks to funding from Bank of America's Art Conservation Project, the screens have recently been remounted. This talk takes you through the cityscape in the screens, and reveals the behind-the-screen story of their conservation.
