Happening this weekend
SAM Performs: Brood Awakening
Brood Awakening is led by drummer Donovon Lewis (12) and pianist Xavier ColĂłn (15), blending soulful jazz with funk-driven grooves. Donovon, a fifth-generation descendant of renowned drummer DâVonne Lewis, brings deep rhythmic roots, while Xavier, son of saxophonist Cliff ColĂłn, adds rich harmonies and improvisational flair. Since their 2023 debut at the Seattle Jazz Fellowship Band Workshop, theyâve been captivating audiences with their fresh, dynamic sound.
SAM Creates: Nicho workshop hosted by Raquel Garcia
Join artist Raquel GarcĂa MartĂnez in creating a nichoâa small, handmade shrine traditionally used to honor loved ones or display meaningful images. Using recycled materials like foamboard and found objects, participants will design and decorate their own personal shadow boxes. Raquel is a self-taught artist from Tijuana, now based in Seattle. Her work is rooted in Mexican folk art and reflects themes of culture, identity, and everyday life.
